Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a journalist for NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has an undergraduate degree in English from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell joined KYW Radio and TV as the Philadelphia reporter in 1967. In 1976 she joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). In the following two years, she joined NBC News as a Washington reporter. In 1980, she began covering the White House. 1988 became the main congressional reporter. She was made the Chief White House correspondent in 1992. As well as the Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist for the TV show Meet the Press and also hosted the program. She was a member of an advisory panel during the 1988 presidential debates featuring George Bush (then president) and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan a former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to recognize her excellence in journalism. In 2004 The Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contributions to protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began reporting on the White House in 1981-1988, and during the presidency of Ronald Reagan. She covered many notable stories such as weapons control, budget taxes and the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended many summits with the help of the President Reagan along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
